1) Read and Play.
There is no need to stress the importance of introducing your child to the concept of a book. You can check books out to take home with you. But in addition to that, many libraries offer other free activities for children such as "stay and play", puzzles, "Read to a Dog", and more. Many libraries have really nice areas for the little ones, where kids can find some age-appropriate books, play and meet other children.

2) Storytime
Another thing that many local libraries offer is a storytime", when a storyteller reads to the kids, sings with them, and plays some simple games. You can find storytime for babies, for toddlers, for families. You will meet other parents and kids there. And it's a great way to introduce your child to a group activity.
Here you can find your local library. I suggest going to a few and then deciding which you like better. Our personal favorite is the Kirk-Bear Canyon branch: Mr. Bill there is just great!!!
Himmel Park branch is one of the oldest, and there is a small park with a playground nearby, giving your active child a place to run around after 30 min. of a storytime.
